Default Question about mark

Hey Guys what does a letter "G" mean if it is located just in front of the 4 Imperial proofs on the right side of the upper receiver of what looks like a VoPo Luger? The letter is about the same size as the Imperial proofs but in a plain font.

Thanks

I don't know the definative answer, but I've seen that large Roman letter "G" on some WW1 small parts (eg. the right side of an unproofed breech block). I've also seen crown over Frankentur letter insprector marks in this same position, so I would therorize that it's either an inspector's mark, or perhaps the inspection of a reworked luger when on the right receiver. All I found on some German sites, is that the crown and G is one of the proof signs of the Weimarer Republik.

Supposedly it is a first proof stamp ( Vorbeschuß) for solid bullets (Geschoss). There is then usually the U (Untersuchung) after the second and final proofing and the N with crown for Nitro charges.
