Question Past Luger's of the month?

Where did these archived pics go? I remember seeing them in thumbnail format at one time. [img]confused.gif[/img]

Ted, <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />
I noticed that the last Centerfold Luger of the Month is May 2002. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />
Has this feature been , suspended, abandoned, or just lacking in participants ?

Probably Viggo, ask Herr Webmeister! ON A SIMILAR NOTE, I loved the calander that Jan Still put together in 1999 with battle scenes and Lugers! WOW and only $15, it was cool! <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Red face

I will be bring the Luger Forum Centerfolds up to date (September 2002), but after this month I will no longer be featuring a Luger of the Month. Not enough time, not enough participation, not enough interest.

Doc, I would love to get one of my Lugers on TLOTM, but who wants to see refinished items, no matter how great they look?

Unhappy

Thank you for your posting, Herb. I understand your sentiments, but the basic problem is with a very few exceptions, it would appear that no one actrually sees the Front Page. Now that we have this new forum, almost everyone uses it as their gateway to to the forum.

I have been monitoring the situation for several months, and many months the Luger of the Month slides by without a single comment on the forum. I need you to know that it is a significant amount of time and effort to hunt down candidates for this feature. I place requests on the forum for members to give me photos to feature, but I get no replies.

While I take your point that it could be that some feel their pistols are "not worthy", that can't be true of everyone. My last two requests have gone completely unanswered, so recently, (in consultation with other senior members of the forum) I announced that I would be be stopping this feature. If someone else wants to pick up the reins and run with it, that's fine by me, but I've had enough.

Case in point, there is only one thread I could find regarding this months Front Page feature, and of the eight (8) posts in that thread, only two (2) were actually about the featured Luger. Of the 509 registered members, 0 - 2 posts about a feature that takes such an effort to produce is pretty damn pathetic in my books. And it just goes to confirm my opinion, that the vast majority of the users really don't care about this feature. With the exception of a few, perhaps like yourself, most appear not even to recognise that the Front Page exists, in fact the term Front Page itself may be a misnomer. All in all it's not enough motivation for me to continue.

Please don't anyone take this to be your mission to "drum up" support for the Front Page and the Luger of the Month feature, as I believe long term it would be futile, and short term would only involve more work on my part for no real benefit. It's the well known Law of Diminishing Returns.

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose (Ecclesiastes), and the time for the Luger of the Month is past.

Sincerely

Dok

For those who think they will miss the Luger of the Month feature...

In my SPARE time, I have been working on a concept for a new feature to replace the Luger of the Month... and when it is ready, I will make an announcement in this forum...

For those who do use the Lugerforum.com portal to enter the discussions (AND EVERYBODY SHOULD SINCE THIS SITE IS SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST DISCUSSIONS) ...From time to time there may be a featured article on a special Luger... the frequency and conditions for which have not been determined...

I also want to take a moment to thank Dok for all the work he has put into this Website... his support and guidance are invaluable to code hackers like me who help out when they can...

Dok, that is a shame, but I can't blame you.

As a minimum, we should stress that if you set up your bookmark for these pages, go back to www.lugerforum.com that will take you to the "front page". The tech pages and information and FAQ pages are great for newcomers and a quick ref for others. I am guessing that yahoo or other portals bring them to www.lugerforum.com and not anywhere else.

I had changed my bookmark and then changed it back to use all the features of the forum.

I did receive several replies via PM on the August Dutch Luger, so maybe others are using that feature instead of posting.

Thanks guys,

I have always said it would be a shame to have the Luger Forum site fall into disuse because members were only accessing the forum part. I think this is a warning shot, unless collectively we all try to keep the site portion alive (the part that I felt set us apart from the other gun forums) the Luger Forum runs the risk of going the way of The Gun and Knife Forum and others of that ilke.

(End of rant) <img src="graemlins/soapbox.gif" border="0" alt="[soapbox]" />
