My favorite Luger picture of this week is posted below.

I was watching the 2005 remake of King Kong over the weeked and was surprised and happy to see the Captain armed with a Luger. It appears to be an authentic Navy. It was fired in the film and cycled as a Luger should. Given director Peter Jackson's interest in military history (he owns a large collection of WWI memorabilia, including I believe Lugers) I would bet he paid personal attention to the details of its function.

I have been looking for something that would work for giant apes, just in case, and will now investigate a Navy for that use.

OK, a Navy sounds good. But your hero is holding an Artillery LP08!?

Yes I mis-identified it. I'll be sure to search for an artillery - when dealing with a romance-crazed giant ape, it is important to have the right tool for the job.

While the movie is total fantasy, I'd forgotten what a fun ride it was. The Luger made it even better. Another screen shot.

Not a Luger in the bunch, not even a giant Ape, but I've been very proud of this photo ever since a prominent German collector told me he had never seen them all in one place before, not even in a museum.

The German Navy's handguns prior to the Luger, along with their original holsters. (The first has a belt hook and wasn't used with a holster.)
