Mauro;
I just joined the Forum as I am now a proud owner of a 30 cal Luger. The information is quite interesting and I would like to add to your database. In reading up on my Luger, which appears to be a 29/70 variant, I am somewhat puzzled. According to Fred Datig, I was expecting the "Original" emblem to have even lettering. My Swiss frame Luger is numbered 10.0017XX and has the usual import marks "Interarms", "FBM", etc and internal scribed numbers. The puzzle comes in that the "Original" emblem appears to be of the prototype style described by Fred Datig where the "a" and "l" do not follow the script of the preceding letters. Does anyone else have a similar marking for low 20/70 serial number guns? |

Dear mbauer,
During the researches for our new book: "The Parabellum is back! 1945 - 2000", Gerben and I we had the possibility to discover 3 different Original Mauser banner used by Mauser in the 70' production. In the early production, the banner was engraved and then rolled. In the engraved banner, we found two different variations. I hope this helps. Cheers, Mauro

Hi Matt,
It's an early one. Manufactured in 1971. It was probably delivered to Interarms around April of that year. The Interarms pistols were not proofed at an official proof house, and therefore lack a proof date. (execeptions exist). Your pistol probably has Mauser's in house FBM proof. 6 inch or 4 inch barrel? |

Hello, I bought a Mauser Parabellum a few years ago. 9mm, 6" bbl., S/N 11.013719. It has Interarms markings and the American Eagle over the chamber. It came in a nice presentation case. It appeared to have never been fired which has been remedied. It's accurate and reliable. That's about all I know about it.

Bob, there are no exact production totals, just estimates based on factory documentation and observed pistol serial numbers.
About 4,700 .30 luger pistols were made, in several configurations and barrel lengths. About 15,000 9mm pistols were made, again in several configuration and barrel lengths. There are not 2 but 3 frame types used in the .30 luger variation: Swiss frame, Swiss opening curve: approx. 1000 pistols. Swiss frame, Modified opening curve. P08 style frame. The Swiss frame, Swiss opening curve was not used on the 9mm pistols, so they have only 2 frame variations: Swiss frame, Modified opening curve. P08 style frame. |

I am wondering whether the serial numbers were continuous from the Swiss style Mauser Parabellum to the PO8 style or whether the PO8 started a new munber sequence. I had a
6", 9 mm Swiss that I bought used in 1972 and a 4" 9mm PO8 that I bought in December 1975 directly from Interarms' warehouse in Alexandria, VA. Unfortunately for me both of them plus 5 other Lugers were stolen from my house in the early 90's. My old records show that I recorded the '72 or earlier Swiss as 11.013673 and the '75 PO8 as 11.001607. Did I mix up the serial numbers of the two pistols or did the serial numbers of the PO8 start with 11.001001 over again? |

Dear Patrick,
There is no break in the serial number sequence between 29/70 and 06/73 models. Cheers, Mauro

The serlal numbering was continuous. Changes where phased in and you can see several styles appear in mid to late 1972 when the new P08-style frame (06/73 model) was introduced.
So the best explanation for your records, is that you switched the serial numbers. |

Thanks for the clarification. I must have mixed up the records. Now I really miss my 29/70 knowing that it was only the 606th of the 9mm Parabellums.

Hello,
For your data base. I recently acquired a Interarms Mauser Luger in 30 cal. It has a 6" barrel and is the Swiss style with an American Eagle over the chamber. Serial number is 10 02383. It came with the manual, a small bronze or brass plaque 2'' X 1.5" with the words "Mauser Parabellum" and the Mauser logo. No box or target, two magazines. Do you have an idea when this pistol was made? Aldo35 |

Hello Aldo,
Please find here the data concerning your pistol from the Mauser Internal production ledger. I do not have time to check but most probably in the "Parabellum is back" book you can also find when your pistol has been shipped to Interarms and in which crate :-) Hope this helps, Mauro
