Judging from the crystalline structure of the break, the legs are cast, probably Zamak. If they were machined from aluminum bar stock the 'break' would look different, or not break at all. Shoei is a class act in modelguns, but maybe not so much for real rifles.
Machining the entire leg, from what little I can see, would be time intensive whether steel or aluminum. For an individual with access to a mill or lathe, it would still be pretty much a labor of love. I think that if you really wanted a bipod, then modifying an M14 bipod would be the best bet. Keep the SMG bipod for static display; the M14 for shooting.
