You say 'locally' but have no location in your profile...So we don't know if you have local sales tax...Or if you're buying from a dealer or an individual...
But...If it was here in my state from a dealer I'd have to pay an extra 8% sales tax...From an individual, no sales tax...And no FFL fees...And no S&H fees... It's a bird in the hand...Is it worth two in the bush??? ![]()

Go to the bank, get 9 $100 bills, offer him $800...Go to $850/$900 if you have to...If he doesn't go for it, say Thank You and walk away...

Am I missing something here? Are we talking about a matching WW2 Mauser Luger, with matching mag, very little bluing wear, good grips, no rust, no pitting, it isn't chrome plated, etc. And you 2 are going to argue with the seller because he wants $1000? For God's sake, give me the seller's number and I'll buy it. And I'm proudly known, far and wide, as a bottom feeding cheapskate.

Hi Andrew, I agree with David. Buy the gun for $1,000.00 and pay the sales tax. You're getting a great deal and Tennessee needs the money. Regards, Norm

+1 $1k seems like a price that would be very fair to you; be careful not to "negotiate" yourself right out of a deal! Walking away from this one would seem like a waste of shoe leather (sorry, postie).

No problemo!
I suppose you all pay whatever a salesman quotes as the sale price??? ![]() ******************************************** Why would he have to pay sales tax if he's buying from an individual??? I'm in NYS and if you buy a handgun from an individual, there is no place to pay the 'sales tax'. The pistol permit office won't take it, and there is no walk-in sales tax office listed in the phone book...Only dealers have to charge/file sales tax...

Postino:
No, to the contrary I always try to get the best deal that I can. Always. However $1000 is very reasonable for that gun, so I'd not want to take a hard line on the dealings. Offer him $900 cash, hymm and haw a little bit, and buy the gun. Regardless. But that issue of sales tax does frost my ----. 9+% is high, and unless he is a dealer or has a sales tax number, it seems unnecessary. Here in Nebr. it is the duty of the buyer to report the out-of -state or private purchase to the County Treasurer, and pay the sales tax at that time. But only a licensed dealer has the tax number and is expected to collect the tax. But I'm sure all states are diff. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this Luger, and may it be your first of many. dju |

Well just bought it. Just need to meet and trade $900 and its mine. I'm pretty excited since I have been wanting one for a decade now. I appreciate all the help, input and guidance. I promise to take better pictures when I get it.
Thanks again |
