It may have been fired at one time with the main spring not properly engaged to the upper. WAG. Nice Mauser pistol, and a family connection. Thanks for the show and tell, John

Beautiful Luger, nice holster, great family heirloom, and all wear looks normal and correct to me.
Be careful because you may get an uncontrollable urge to buy another one!

rpm, The suffix letter on your luger is an L rather than an I. TH

Excellent post !

You have a really nice Luger - matching serial numbers, eagle proof stamps, and its in wonderful condition. Don't change a thing! I would never shoot it. You can by an affordable shooter just to get the feel of it, but the real joy is the story and the amazing engineering that went into building that pistol.

Get some of the reference books, as they are becoming harder to find and getting more expensive, even faster than the pistols !

My Grandfather returned from WW-II with a BYF very similar to yours, with the holster. Sadly, he passed away in the 60's and we never got the story. I'm sure it was a gift from a German.

I'm very impressed with your Certificate - that really increases the value of your gun and it's in good shape, too!

I'll post my photos later in the summer, when I get back to the house where I have it stored.
