Ed's toggle isn't drilled for either axle pin retaining pin, but the Gun Digest schematic clearly shows them [#15 & #18]. It also shows the axle pins having grooves that the retaining pins fit into. Ed's pin (the one that fell out) was not grooved.

Cost cutting measure???

I doubt 'cost cutting', as this kit has the quality finger grips on the toggle that are like the original, instead of the cheaper lug grips. I have the lug grips, but it has the locking pins. There is also a variation in 22LR mags. Shown in this kit is the longer mag, but there is also one that only held about 5 rounds. Just variations in the manufactures.

Rich, thanks for posting that exploded view pic. Along with what's being discussed, it also confirms my suspicions of how the extractor is shaped, and is installed. Mine wouldn't come out for a cleaning when I tried. I'd deduced pretty much what's shown, but the confirmation will help this project when I take it up again! The kit shown is the earlier style, the SE/08. Nor is mine drilled as illustrated.

There's another difference in styles of mags for the kits. The mags in the kits without the replacement ejector have extended right, rear feed lip, which shows up where the ejector would, and flicks the shell out the same way.
