Did you feel it was too expensive when you bought it? (or you are saying it was misrepresented?) I assume in the last 5 years that you've learned about navies and its now public? I am just a bit confused how this thread went - or have you been irritated at Norm the last five years? |

Norme,
Very innovative, I like it. But, it puts a burden on hayhugh. I wouldn't want anyone dealing with me to have to suffer a burden. My reply would be why don't don't you show your good will and take care of me, the one who perceives a wrong, and put it on GunBroker yourself, elevating yourself in the eyes of others. That's a win, win. For me, at least, your way doesn't strengthen my confidence in member sellers. Jack |

I've sold a few guns to forum members in the past and I've ALWAYS tried to be very up-front about any and all deficiencies they might have. I find it hard to believe that I did not do so in the transaction referred to above, but unfortunately my correspondence with Hugh has timed out. Whether I did or not I will make good any financial loss he might incur.

Ed,
You appear to be blaming the "victim". Why not just ask Norme to clear this up? hayhugh made an accusation, why not now turn to Norme and say what about it, instead of ripping into hayhugh? As a Moderator, I hope you don't use your position to quell this issue. I'm not saying you would. I am saying, however, nothing is ever said when someone speaks ill of someone like Ralph Shattuck, who is no longer here to defend himself. In this case, one of Shattuck's detractors, the person detracted, is here, and can defend himself. Ironic. Jack |

Norm, I have just got off the Gunbroker site and to an 84year old it is rather daunting. I would rather sell the gun back to you and let you realize any profit there is to be made.
Send me a check for $2400.00 and I will ship the gun back at my expense. Hugh |

Ed,
Five years has nothing to do with it. It's called holding a grudge. There's no Statute Of Limitations. Norme has now corrected the situation very honorably. He sets a great example. As for thinking about what I'm writing, please enlighten me. The gist of my posts have been to respectfully resolve a bad situation keeping one's self in the best light while not demeaning the other person in the process. That's exactly what Norme did, to his credit. What would you rather him do, join you in attacking that person? "Irony your butt"? I could have said curious or coincidental as in a situation where one levels accusations onto someone else only to find themselves facing the same accusations by third party. That is a situational reversal, one of the definitions of irony. I know you know this, I am not trying to lecture you. I couldn't even if I wanted too, which I don't. I read your answer to the OP in your Post #3. I thought you were very fair to Ralph Shattuck. Jack |

I actually like both parties listed here, I just thought it was an odd situation. And yes, 5 yrs is a long time - you can turn it as much as you want, but five years...

Lots going on in this string, but I'll limit my comments to Ralph. I visited with him 3-4 times (once with Ed T.) and Ralph and his wife were always the perfect hosts. Dinner at his country club and hours of conversation were always in store when I visited his home in Peoria which was fairly close to mine. I always took what Ralph claimed with a grain of salt and did as much research as possible before buying from him. As said earlier in this post, Ralph was one of the founding members of the Luger collecting society and was indeed a used car salesman from Detroit. It is said that he coined the phrase "Black Widow Luger" to help sell byf Lugers with plastic grip panels. Ingenious.

Is Ralph's wife still well and alive ? If so, does she ever visit this board ? I would think that she would be very embarrassed about the comments concerning Ralph....Several have said she was a great host and a nice person...and in the same sentence/paragraph throw rocks at Ralph...He is gone...let it be.......Tom Austin

Reason I say that - bought a Winchester from a friend of mine about 10-14 years ago. He said they lived along the Canada / USA border and they had hunting camps in Canada (we are talking 50-80+ yrs ago) and one evening they heard a vehicle coming across the frozen ice. It was a military Jeep (this was middle of WW2) and this grizzled sergeant had a case of M1 Carbines that he was selling for $50 each, sold a couple at their camp and drove down to the next. Ed |
