I remember when Eugene was first 'feeling out' the responses he could expect from members of this Forum...For the new members, here are two of the best...

I read the thread on Still's forum...Sounds like on-the-fence collectors who previously decided they couldn't afford Krause's .45 Lugers are re-thinking purchase of Eugene's at $5K price...
http://luger.gunboards.com/showthrea...-back-for-sale I'm surprised no handgun journalist [coff*SGN*coff] has raced to Eugene's door...

Damn, if I weren't planning a wedding then I'd already be on this as I think a .45 ACP Luger would be fun (just like the .45 Shansei I have). If nothing else it'd be a great display (which I'd get to use a few times a year!).
Are these the only two batches you'll ever make, Eugene? Michael

Also, there are a couple of small changes i want to make, to make manufacturing easier and when that happens, maybe in another 2 years, there maybe two versions running... classic unchanged and economy simplified . At that point the price may be changing... up for classic and down for economy. These first guns will always be the first ones and time will make them more valuable.

Thanks, Eugene! I was tempted by the Baby .45, too, but I may have to see if I can find some give in the budget and not tell the wife to be (though she has already caught me looking at the pictures and sighing).
Rich - You're a great friend and a terrible enabler (now you have me budgeting)...

I posted this in the Gun Show Announcements sub-forum, but I'll copy it here...I want to see this succeed and have the two runs sell out so that Eugene can go on to his next project...

Well, I assume Ed is still writing up his exhaustive review of the Show, but does anyone have any information on whether the 'show sample' .45 Luger got any more prospective buyers to place their order???
My nephew is a sorta collector/investor. I forwarded him Eugene's web site address and phone number.

Hi Rick,
I had the opportunity to examine Ed's sample at the show, here are my observations. Fit and finish is superb, despite the heavier barrel the gun feels well balanced because the frame is heavier and larger too, it just feels solid. I especially like that Eugene was able to duplicate the unique original trigger shape of the original 45's. I have three small issues and two large ones. I don't like the thumb safety marking, a small arrow pointing up. What's that supposed to mean, locked or unlocked? I don't like the initials on the middle toggle link, styled to resemble DWM's logo and the gun I looked at had no serial number, nothing, nada! My biggest issue is that missing magazine. This is not a trivial little matter that can be taken care of after the fact, it took decades for DWM to get their magazines to work reliably and to this day G.T. is still kept busy tuning them up. Ideally a magazine should be developed together with the gun, it is not an afterthought. My other caveat is reliability. Military guns undergo exhaustive testing involving firing thousands of rounds in extreme conditions. From what I've read Eugene has only been able to fire a few rounds before his test magazines malfunctioned. All that said, this is a noble effort and I congratulate Eugene for having gotten this far. Eugene,
I handled the .45 at SOS quite a bit, and I liked it. My one comment is, the top of the grip safety "bit" the web of my palm between my thumb and forefinger, when depressed. --Dwight |
