Appropriate first post?

One of my lugers (my first, bought 5 years ago in Richmond VA) is a:

byf 42 serial# 7035c
8.81 bore gauge
matching numbered walnut grips, WaA135, WaA135 E/S on right side of frame

non-matching #73 'axle pin' (?)
"blood pitting" on matching sideplate (sure looks like a 'spatter' pattern, too), otherwise pretty nice original finish with some wear and spots of pitting...
non-matching extruded Al bottom fxo mag # 254y #2

pics in next day or so, hopefully

thanks, glad to be here!!

Jason, thanks much for the data on your 42 byf. I own 42 byf S/N 6734c. So it's very close to yours.

Shawn, thanks for the data. Your Luger is part of the Portuguese Contract. Is the finish parkerized of polished blue?

Here is a link to my pictures of it. Hopefully they are acceptable looking. I can't tell if it was parkerized or blued. It does have the plastic grips and I have one metal bottom and one plastic bottomed mag. The Luger was passed down to me from my grandfather. He always told me it was a bring back from WW2. He had some other German items that went with it but my dad has all that stuff. It kinda surprised me when you said it was a Portuguese contract when he told me he brought it back himself. He passed away 3 weeks ago unfortunately so I couldn't ask him to clarify now unfortunately. Would you mind sending me some more info on the Portuguese contract guns?

Thanks Shawn! 42 byf Lugers in the "M" & "N" Blocks are considered Contract Lugers to Portugal and Bulgaria. The first "ABOUT" 5000 M-Block to Portugal, the remaining to Bulgaria.

You pistol looks blue, not parkerized.

Ah, so it is possible that this one went to the German Army and not to Portugal. Ok, well thanks for that. Wish I would have thought to question him more when I was younger and his memory was good. He never talked about his experience over there much. I just know he was away for 3 years.

Phil,
1942 byf serial number 1499L. Mauser was no longer putting serial numbers on the military magazines in 1942 so your gun was issued two fxo mags with unnumbered black plastic or aluminum bottoms.

Thanks Tom and Frank for the information. Mine came with a non matched numbered magazine and was told devalued the gun ( paid $750.00) because of wrong mag.
