Default Imperial Lugers - Barrel Proof

Regarding 1908 - 1918 Imperial Lugers:

Does anyone know at which point in the production cycle the Imperial Eagle was applied to the barrel of Army Imperial Lugers? In other words, were the barrels proofed before installation to the receiver?

Thanks,
Luke

Luke,

Check G¶rtz & Bryans, German Small Arms Markings, pp 111-119.

In the Erfurt factory, the Imperial Inspector's stamp was applied after barrel inspection. Imperial Inspectors apparently did not operate in this fashion at DWM.

The Imperial Eagle firing proof was stamped after the gun was completed and proof-fired with two overpressure rounds. It was applied to the receiver, breechblock and barrel at this time. It was the penultimate marking set applied to a Luger, followed only by the final acceptance stamp.
