Question Krieghoff Extractor questions

Finishing the S date Krieg and I have another S date top in original condition to compare it to. The question is about the extractor, on this top one the extractor is salt blued and the left "GELADEN" side is in the white but the right blank side is STRAWED? Is this correct or an anomoly? Thanks

Hi Thor,

Early extractors should be blued EXCEPT the side where "GELADEN" appears. That area will be in the white on just the flat - while the extractor hook remains "blue". My guess what you are interpreting as "straw" is well worn and thinning blue - which is normal... Anyway - the top is blue as you note too..!

HTH!

Thanks John! I take it by your answer that the right side (the blank or opposite to the Geladen side ) is blued. I guess this one was polished on both side and perhaps has some grease on that side, I didnt take it out of the breechblock.

Yep - that would be right.!!. On my early S, it's a "faint", worn shade of blue - on my Mid-S's - stronger blue - on my late S's somewhere between the two shades (Early & Mid) Never seen an extractor with a strawed side on a Military production - BUT - I have seen one on a post war..!

Best to you!
