Russ, thanks for posting that! We're moving to McMinnville (45 miles south of Portland) where there's an air museum also (Spruce Goose etc. is there), but I had no idea the Tillamook museum existed.

When my Navy WWII Dad comes up to visit soon, we'll take him there. Salutes to all who have made us the land of the free.

Frank, The museum is in a WWII Navy blimp hangar.A base for anti-submarine patrols. After the war it was purchased by the Tillamook Cheese Co. And was a cheese factory up until the 60s or 70s? And now an Air Museum. Very impressive building. There were two of them. I believe the other one burned down.
Another bit of history, is that not too far from there, at Cannon Beach. Is the sight of the only casualties inflicted by the Japanese on the U.S. mainland. A minister and his family out on a Sunday picnic came across a Japanese balloon bomb. The bomb detonated killing the Mother and I think, both of the children.

To bring the topic back to guns for a moment, the Evergreen Air Museum in McMinnville is planning a second building, where they will display among other things a rather extensive gun collection. No word on completion date.

One of the cool things about the Tillamook Air Museum is that it is a flying museum, most of the aircraft on display are airworthy and actually flown from time to time.

I just went to the new Dulles/Smithsonian in VA...saw the Enola Gay...really cool as I had been wanting to see that plane for many years.

If your in Southern California, go the the Planes of Fame in Chino. They have the only flyable Japanese Zero. They also have a German ME-262.

Dwight
There is a military vehicle show there this weekend. I was invited to go into the vault, but can not make it this weekend. Do you like the book?
