Malfunction

My 1917 DWM shooter is developing a problem. Every few rounds or so the cannon seems to go too far back and the pin slides out just a hair, which freezes the cannon in the rearward position. Has anybody had this happen to them? Thanks, guys.

This is the reason for the frame hump on the vintage Mausers, and the oversized pin head on the Swiss and re-intro Mausers. But, on the other hand, I have never encountered an actual case of this problem in a DWM.

Are the receiver and frame matched? Is the pin in good condition? Especially the head flange?

The receiver & frame are "matched," but I put that in quotes because I think that some parts on the gun have been renumbered. I'll check the pin tonight, but I think it was OK. The problem seems to be with the fact that the cannon goes back so far that the pin is completely exposed.

As unspellable has said, the problem you have described is the reason for the later production changes of "bumps" on the back of the Luger frame, and a larger flange on the pin...

I think it is possible that your main/recoil spring may have been shortened or at the very least weakened so that the slide travel past the frame ears... Solution? a new proper length Wolfe spring.

The 38# spring is "standard" and rated to replace the factory spring. Wolffe also makes a 36 and a 40# spring and sells all three as a "set". I'd try the 38# first.
