hold open
How much does the magazine have to do with the hold open only working intermitently? I have a 1908 first issue with the hold open added. It does not have the original magazine which leads to this question. Thanks Jim

The magazine button does the work of lifting the holdopen. A weak mag spring or a damaged button, dirt or an ill-fitting or swollen right grip, or a worn mag latch notch can all contribute to an intermittent function of the holdopen.
Remove the right grip carefully and you can observe the process manually. If the holdopen will work consistently with the right grip removed, then check for appropriate clearance for the mag button to move... especially with aftermarket grips.
