$1000 holsters?
At the last gun show I saw a WW2 brown Luger holster that looked to be in almost perfect, new like condition. The vendor quoted me $1000 without the slightest hesitation. I thought this guy was dreaming and walked away. And now today while surfing the net I was looking at a reputable dealer's web site and saw a WW2 brown holster in the same condition and he was asking $1100. Can this be or is there such a thing as a rare mfg. mark that makes them more valuable?

Hi johnnv,
Excellent++ P.08 holsters sold for $800 - $850 at the Rock Island Auction. Several years ago a collector had some holsters on eBay that appeared to be flat brand new. I still have the pictures and they were beautiful. I knew him and called to find out what the deal was because the bidding was at $650 on some and hadn't met reserve. He said reserve on most was $1000 and if they didn't sell on eBay he would take them to a well known show. He said the last time he took similar holsters to the same show he sold all he had in less than 3 hours. I don't believe any sold on eBay so I assume he did what he said. I haven't had an occasion to speak to him since. Regards, Leon |

Hi johnnv! Leon is correct! It is fairly reasonable to assume that holsters have far out paced (most of) the guns, in value increase, over the last decade or so.... in fact I soon came to the realization 20+ years ago... (right after I sold the best ones!) that excellent collectible holsters, are few and far between! Any German accepted type, for just about every pistol type imaginable... Not to discount other types.. but I'm most familier with P.08 & P.38 holsters... BUT, the high buck holsters are definitly in a class apart... there is a HUGE difference between decent, nice, and mint! With mint maybe double or even triple the normal price of a nice example... I've beat the bushes for a long time, and I have no mint examples of a hardshell holster... I have some nice ones..but not mint.. If I have the cash in my hot little hand, and the right holster comes along... I won't bat an eye... i'll just fork it over!! 1K is probably a bargain for a honest mint example of an early Nazi P.08 holster... Guys who have stuck the leather away, are pretty much ahead of the game right now... best to you, til...lat'r....GT
