Post 42 code dated 1939

I just contracted to buy a 1939 code 42. Haven't gotten it yet, but will post pics when I do. It has a mismatched mag, but all exterior numbers match. Looks to be 85%-95% (although I don't think I'll ever be able to tell the difference between 95% and 98%). I don't know if it's original. My question is... Is there any rare variation 1939 42 code that would place the value around $1000 (in said condition)? Does a $650-$800 value for an all matching run-of-the-mill original sound about right?

Thanks for any help,
Jack

Hello Jack, note I didn't say Hi Jack for obvious reasons!! The 1939, Code 42 is a fairly common version. Somewhere around 86,000 of these were made.

Now having said that, the value will depend on the condition and the fact that all the external AND internal parts match. At least those that are suppose to match. The internal parts that should match are the trigger, grips, main toggle pin, breechblock, hold open lever and firing pin.

The price of a very nice shooter, that which the parts don't match, is somewhere around $600. If the parts do match and the finish (including the bore condition) is somewhere around 90 percent, then a higher price is possible.

Hope this helps!!

Frank,
Thanks for your reply. I am anxiously awaiting entry into the Luger Collector ranks. The pistol is coming from a friend who is allowing me to molest him on the price. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't committing an all out rape!

John,
I'm glad I found you guys. I'm reading up on some posts and have quickly figured out why luger collectors have the reputation they do (I mean that in a good way).

Thanx,
Jack

Why... Thank you Frank! (I had meant to say that if Jack didn't believe me, he could just ask you...but I see it wasn't necessary)
