MY FIRST LUGER AND ACCESSORIES

Thanks in advance for any input. I have been looking for a nice Luger for a long time, finally bought the nicest I have seen around here, a BYF41 fully matching including the two magazines. Can anyone give me some input regarding the accessories (get to bring the Luger home in a week), they all look in excellent condition. Where is the holster manufactured, and is the cleaning rod and loading tool period? This is an apparent vet "bringback", but who knows? I have several P38s and I went with my instincts here instead of educating myself first, but it looked like a very nice set. I was afraid someone might grab it before I did. I appreicate any comments, thanks all!

Josef, those are some great pictures. According to my reference that holster was made with no manufacturers name and essentially what you see is all the info available, at least to me. Perhaps one of the others guys might have some info about it.

* "eqr"= G. Passier & Sohn, Hannover. May, 1941 and onward per John Walter, The Luger Book, Pg. 104, Entry E39.
* Passier PT.08's were inspected/accepted on behalf of the Heeres by WaA750.
* The sE/655 tool is correct for a byf 41. Probably matches the Waffen Inspector marks (2)on the right hand side of the pistol's receiver.
* Are the mag's maker marked "122" or "fxo" on the mag's side along with the Waffen Inspectors mark of E/37 ?? I suspect these are fxo as I see no sE/655 on the base plugs. Some mag code markings were transitioning about the "q" block. Also, some black plastic grips were beginning to show up. Does the leg of the "p" of the Mag's P.08 point toward the mag's spine or toward the middle of the mag's side??
* Cleaning rod was not normally issued with a '41 rig as the "tobacco tin" cleaning units were used by that time. However, there is nothing wrong with the rod coming with the rig and, from the pics provided, I see nothing pro/con with this accessory. Just not normally seen with a byf 41.
* Looks like a nice find. Thanks for sharing. Would enjoy seeing pics of the pistol when it arrives??

Firstly, welcome to the Luger Forum!!! You did a great job for a new member posting your photos!!!

I might be able to help with your holster :

From page 208 of Eugene Bender's book, "Luger Holsters & Accessories Of The 20th. Century"; your holster was made in 1941 (i.e. the 41 stamping), the manufacturer's code of "eqr" stands for the firm of G. Passier & Sohn, Sattlerwaren-Fabrik, Hannover, Strasse der Sturmabteilung. The WaA stamp correct for an "eqr" holster should be WaA 750 (which I believe your photo shows...).

I am not sure if cleaning rods were issued with German military lugers in 1941. I have read in Jan C. Still's book, "Third Reich Lguers" that around 1936 they were no longer issued with each pistol. That is why there is no place to store a rod on your '41 holster.

From page 297 in the same. E. Bender book, your cleaning rod is described as "small loop, steel rod with brass tip". I could not determine from your photo it the tip on your cleaing rod is brass or not...

I cannot make out the stampings on your take-down tool. Are the numbers "655"...? Also, your tool should be made of metal that is 2.5 mm thick. If it is thicker at 3 mm, it might be a 'repro' tool.

You do owe us photos of your pistol...when you get her home...!!!

Thank you all very much for the welcome and the information. It is obvious I need to educate myself further. Here are close ups of the magazines. The tool is definitely marked with an eagle and 655, as is the side of the Luger x2 as stated. Bob, you are also correct these magazines are marked fxo and eagle over 37 a couple times each. It has black handles and is marked with a "G" on the top of the Luger. Pete the cleaning rod may be brass on the end, I just cannot tell for certain. The tool is definitely thinner than 3mm.
Thanks for the very friendly and informative posts. It takes about 1-2 weeks to get her home, so I will definitely post then. In the meantime I will be watching this forum intensely and try to learn. This will liekly be the only one I will ever own, so I hope it will be a collectable one. Thanks again!

That would signify the spare mag or mag number 2.

Oh, I am DESPERATELY awaiting approval to bring her home! It's my first, other than one I dug out of the lake in Europe years ago, so be gentle on me. I hope to have it home by week's end; I pester the Canadian Firearms center every morning, and it's apparently in final approval mode. BTW I love how great people are here, honestly brutal and still very cordial! Makes posting alot easier. Thanks all!
