Photo upload Question
I really like this forum.....is there any way you can make uploading photos simpler??....on some sites one can click on upload....then browse, then the filephoto can be uploaded to the post simply and quickly....or would you have to change the whole operating system???...Thanks....Peter...

Hi Peter..!
Yep - the feature you are describing is found in VB forums - and it great. In fact - for a large Forum I run, that's the software I use (it takes about 1,000,000 page views a day, so I had to change from UBB to VB on that one a while ago). Anyway - to the left, you should see a link called: Upload Photos From there - you can "upload" right from your computer. Once it's done - when you see your photo - just "copy" the URL that is given to you - and paste it as an IMG into your post. Not as easy - but it's pretty good. Yep - I'm still debating changing the software structure of this Forum over - but I'm not sure yet..?? Best to you!!! - John D. |

As an old white Republican (and fat to boot) , not to mention a proud member of the vast right wing conspiracy, I can state with no reservations that when I follow the upload photos instructions precisely, aircraft checklist style, I always wind up in the same place: That pissant message "This page cannot be displayed" and an overwhelming urge to either send the stuff to John "The long suffering" Sabato or Ed Tinker or throw my laptop out the window.
The upload process here is the Anti-Christ. That's my belief and I am stickin' to it until someone shows me twice that I am wrong. Tom A Wastin'away in Huntsgaritaville |

Hey Pete..!!
Aww - don't worry about it - just glad it working!!! Howdy Tom A....!!!! LOL!!!! OK - you are my "challenge for the day. You WILL be able to post pictures as soon as you read this.. Ready??? 1 - Forget EVERYTHING you THINK you know about posting pictures because - well - whatever it is, it's obviously wrong... 2 - Let's start with the most common picture type - "JPG" pictures. On your computer, find a picture you would like to post - (preferably about Lugers <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> ) and name it something like "tomspicturetest.jpg". No spaces, no wierd punctuation marks, etc. - and check that the "size" of the pic is less then "180.0 KB"... 3 - follow me here (click on the following link): http://boards.rennlist.com/lfupload/lfupload.html You'll see a page open - and follow those instructions. In short - all you'll do is "browse" to the picture on your computer - and "upload" it with that button.... 4 - After your picture is uploaded - under the picture - you'll see the saying "Copy this" - it's the "location of your pic. Will look like this: http://boards.rennlist.com/lfupload/tomspicturetest.jpg Just "select" that name with your mouse - and "Copy iit" 5 - Great - now your pic is uploaded..!!!! 6 - now, come on back to the Forum and click on "new topic" or "post reply" 7 - You'll see this button: Click on it - and "paste" the name of your pic into the box that appears... 8 - Post your reply - and the pic will be right there!!! Now - total time to do all this stuff is about 5 seconds - but first time through is kind'a longer... But - when you have a minute - try the above steps, and let me know where you are getting stuck, OK?? Best to you! - John D. |

Thanks John!!....what really got me in the beginning was the "copy and paste" bit.....I now have the hang of that.....before I was typing in the location each picture.....somewhat time consuming and frustrating!!!.....now all is okay.....though for someone who does'nt understand computers it could still be a little difficult...Best Wishes....Peter..

Well, I got the same verdampt pissant message again....:This web page cannot displayed"...I'll display yo' momma, you son..oh well.
Life is too short for this level of aggrevation. Possible problem (I guess, sheez, I got nothin' better to do than guess and certainly zero knowledge) is that my pix are too big, but how in the name of all that is sweet and holy do I tell? Likewise, I have a s'picion that somehow the AOL fascists may be behind the problem...its either them or the Trilateral Comission. (Just kiddin'!) So, to hell with it. The USPS doesn't work well, but it works better than this for sending pix. Tom A. |

"AOL 9.0, the savior of western civililization and a cure for cancer according to them." Also - what page says - "This web page cannot displayed" (yea - I know - the one you can't see - but.... "I will try this again and copy the page and send it to you; I suspect it is a windows standard "You screwed up, not us" message." When do you see that - when you FIRST click on the link before trying to upload - or AFTER you try to upload..??? "I see the link, click on it to upload, it starts gurgling, passing gas and burping, then it sends that verdampt message. At that pointg I do a short debate with my higher values to determine whether I will throw my new Dell laptop frizbee-style out the window.I then quickly realize that I DO NOT NEED TO SEND PIX, I HAVE THE GUNS." "Then I calm down a bit and ponder my immeasurable technical incompetence." Enquiring minds wanna know - yanno???!!! Tried that and the damn thing is worse than both of my wives...always says the same damn thing without offering a molecule of help..
Pissant message copy follows: The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. It may have been previously - but, you were able to see other pics that were posted...??? I may try something for you tomorrow - and "fake out" your DNS and your cache - put it will take some time to program, but it'll be worth it, as I wasted my popcorn tonite waiting for your pics.. Best to you Tom - and I'll get you squared away - promise - even if I have to hack the Forum a bit... thanks for giving it another try!!!!! John D. |

JD,
Thanks for enduring my ignorance and pain in the keister attitude on posting pix. Life is NOT supposed to be this tough and although I do NOT consider myself the slightest bit astute in IT, I likewise do not consider myself a complete idiot. Someone once defined insanity as doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results...thats a whole like what I feel has been happening. There really has to be a better way. Thanks for all your help and feed the stale popcorn to the crows up there. Tom A |
