Dok: Time
Dok, I'm still wondering about the time posted considerations. When I post a message, the time posted seems to be about an hour and a few minutes earlier than when I actually posted. Is anyone else noticing this or am I in a slight time warp?

Short Explaination...
Nope - you are not in a time warp....
Briefly - 12 servers share two T1 connections in my office - and Luger Forum sits across two of these servers. (The message Board is on a LINUX server and the website sits on a W2K server). Anyway - this Linux server is one hour and a few minutes behind on purpose.... See - on the mail servers, I send out approximately 12,000,000 e-mails in 24 hours from the various e-mail lists and Web Boards (I have a LOT of these e-mail lists and there are close to 70,000 registered e-mail addresses that are signed up to get e-mails from my servers). About 2,000,000 of those e-mails are DIGESTS - which are ONE BIG e-mail with the posts from a specific list. Most of these are 100KB in size and larger. These are sent at out 12:00 Midnight. If all my servers compile and send these DIGESTS at the same time - it would consume approximately 500% of my available bandwidth.... If that happens - chances are you'd never be able to get "into" this web board between the hours of 12 midnight and 1:00 AM EDT - as with all those bytes of info going OUT, an incoming datastream would be sort of like a "salmon swimming upstream against the current"... Not very fast... HTH..... |

Re: Short Explaination...
Thank you John, I was wondering... your explanation is much more interesting than my mundane thoughts. Sorry Rick, I didn't see your post until just a couple of minutes ago, was on the phone to NM talking to Ted Green (trying to find out what he's cooking up for you John...). Have a great weekend guys!

Now that you've explained it to me....
I think I begin to understand! I see that you're talking about incredible traffic! Ok, I can adjust my time very easily! I just thought I was pointing out a problem that maybe no one else had noticed, or that the problem originated perhaps, in my computer. Now I see! Please understand that I intended not to complain, but to help. See, you can learn about so much more than Lugers at this site!

Hi Rick..!!!
Sorry if my tone of my post had you thinking that I thought you were complaining - not at all!!! I kind'a dashed off my reply just before going to bed, so please - it wasn't taken as a complaint at all...!!!
Now - the REAL REASON that I set-back the clock on this server specifically - is to give me a LONGER TIME to fill out the On-line LugerForum quizzes. (It gives me an hour advantage even though I'm on the East Coast) BUT - don't tell anyone I told you.... Heh, heh, heh...!!! |

Re: Hi Rick..!!!
No, I didn't think that you thought I was complaining. I just wanted to make sure that you didn't think I was complaining. Your explanation that you "dashed off" was more than adequate. It will keep me busy for a couple of days now as I search the internet to find out what a "LINUX server is, what a T1 connector is, and what a W2K server is.

Let me save you some time...
Linux...
(what the UNIX operating system was meant to be... FREE!) T1... A high speed comms link. T1 is to 56K, as the F14 is to a Sopwith Camel W2K... Windows 2000. Another bloated over-rated product filled with bugs and undocumented features from Bill Gates! |
