LugerForum Banned!
While using a gov't server I tried to log onto the Lugerforum.
Here is the result: <a href="http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/capture_09192004_154351.gif" target="_fullview"><img src="http://forums.lugerforum.com/lfupload/capture_09192004_154351.gif" width="400" alt="Click for fullsize image" /></a>

If they are using any of the web tools such as Websense, then any "weapons" sites are added into the "banned" subjects. But if you use this address, it will usually slip through;
http://forums.lugerforum.com/cgi-bin...?ubb=get_daily this is the daily info page, Ed

This is not a "websense" message... I am very familiar with that type...
it must be another type of website filter used by the specific organization whose system you were using Wes... I have seen the Lugerforum "visited" at a couple of federal government locations... it all depends on the local network security administrator on what they try to filter.

John, this was not a US gov't server, but an international body.

All depends on the webmaster or whomever has told him/her what they want to display... Many times asking them to "allow" a certain website, they will.

On those sites that are questionable Ed... I get a standard Websense trademarked screen that indicates the "category" of information that is being filtered... along with a statement that says if there is a business need, or the category of the website is in error to submit a report to the Network Admin for relief from filtering a particular site... each is judged on a case by case basis...
I remember a couple of years ago, doing business related reseach on keyboards that had credit card magnetic stripe capability built-in, that I wanted to visit the website for "Cherry" keyboards... I was notified that the website I had selected was prohibited as a website where pornography was available... Since I had a legitimate business need to visit that site for the my employer at the time, I submitted a trouble ticket to the help desk, and after a couple of hours I got approval to allow that one website to be viewed over the corporate network via the internet... The help desk/admin folks had investigated and determined that the Cherry Keyboard folks just happend to use an Internet Service Provider that did a rather large business in porn from the same host computers... I haven't checked lately, but after my discussions with the sales folks at Cherry about my experience, I believe that they switched service providers right after that so that legitimate business interests in their product category would not get that message any more...

Hey guys, I'm accessing on a Gov't secured computer right now. No problem. They use a "Key Word" system. If it picks up a word that is a "forbidden" term, then it will block access. Who knows, maybe somebody put Luger on the list.Maybe some anti-gun type programmed it.

Hi,
Dansguardian (which is used here) is a so-called content filter. It doesn't check URLs but rather the content of the site itself. I'd be interested to know what content it found, though |
