Hey Ted,
I thought a Lahti was one of those $ 4.00 coffee drinks at Starbucks... Seriously, I wanted to get a Lahti for a shooter and then found out the receivers are prone to cracks/failures. Some officer was killed when one blew up in his face and the Swedes dropped the gun completely as their service firearm... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" /> |

No wonder no one is bidding on it. Another firearm that is potentially deadly to the person firing it. And people wonder why military organizations are real reluctant to switch to a new unproven pistol or rifle system. Even if the proposed new weapon (like a self loading rifle compared to a bolt action one) is superior. The US Army received heaps of criticism for sticking with the Springfield ’03 rifle till 1942, and dragged its feet with the M1 Garand in the 30s. Then they stuck with basically the same model (M-14) until about 1964, while many other modern nations had long since ramped up to assault rifles. I guess there’s a kind of logic to this, better an old proven standby, then a new gun that might kill its own troops.

Hey Ted,
No need to self-destruct your posting...! When I saw your photo post, I was excited and worried at the same time. A part of me wants to get one but just knows I couldn't shoot it. You have no need to apologize for your posting... |

Wm.,
It is probably wisest (sad but true) not to post a link to an auction in which you have an interest in purchasing the gun. Thor was probably correct in deleting the post. The best approach would be to private post to others to obtain their opinions and assessments. And the forum is the loser for it.

Pete,
A correspondent from Sweden posted on the old forum abut the Lahti breakage problem. I have heard, and maybe someone can confirm or correct me, that the Finnish Lahti does not have the problems which beset the Husqvarna Lahtis. Hogg & Weeks note that the design of the Husqvarna version was changed slightly from the Swedish gun, as well as the use of different spec steel. The cracking problem was exacerbated by the adoption of a 9mm smg cartridge as the service round. --Dwight |
