Were all lugers manufactured in Germany, or did they have plants out side the country?

I believe there were 7 manufacturers of Luger pistols prior to production ceasing in 1942 at Mauser and maybe 1945 at Krieghoff. DWM, BKIW, and Mauser, used the DWM tooling; Erfurt, Simson, and Krieghoff used the Erfurt tooling; all of these were in Germany. The Bern factory in Switzerland continued to produce Lugers through 1946. I would not count Vickers as a manufacturer as they appear to at most have been assembling DWM parts. Mauser began production of the "Parabellum" in 1970 with the first models following the Swiss 1929 pattern. Mitchel Arms produced an "American Eagle" luger type in the US. This firm has gone through a number of sucessors and still is in operation in Texas.

There is a really confusing array of 22 pistols and some 380s in a Luger style from Erma, some of Italian manufacture and some made in the US I do not think should be counted as Lugers. Mostly because it is too much work :-)

Heinz, Slight correction. Mitchell and Stoeger never made any 9mm Lugers, just marketed the Aimco made ones. There was also a Spanish firm, that manufactured a 22LR Luger look alike under the Panzer name. TH

Thanks Tom for the correction. I got that out of "The Luger Story" and should have known better than to trust it!

I guess this would add something to the conversation. What about Spandau??? Have they finally been proven to be fakes, or does the mystery prevail???

Johnny, I think that since the "Experts" can't agree on it, we would ahve a heck of a time...

But, my personal opinion is, Spandau's "could" be reworks...
