Info about Luger model 1906
Hi folks,
I just purchased my first Commercial Luger. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> It is a DWM 1906, chambered to .30 Luger, serial number 29692 (all matching), around 70% of original blue. The most interesting thing on this pistol is the fact that the word "GESICHERT" is missing under the safety, where the gun was clearly polished. I�´d like to know: is it common? how many have this modification? when it was manufactured? price range? Douglas,
Your Model 1906 Commercial is a fairly early '06, and the milled area was the indiction of the "safe" condition of the pistol. With the bright milled area showing, the pistol was in the safe condition. The Model 1906 used several methods of indication for the safe position throughout production, but the bright milled area was a carryover from the Model 1900. |

A newbie question... without tearing down a Luger, is there an easy way to tell whether a Luger is a commercial or military...say at a gun show --where ones time is Confusedited? [img]confused.gif[/img]

Lightened it a bit, how does that look [img]wink.gif[/img] . A couple of things come to mind Regul80; Usually a military will have many more proofs and serial numbering is on more parts. The serial number of a commercial will be on the front of the frame and not have a suffix. It "might' have Germany stamped on the front of the receiver. Finish is usually orginally better. Others?

Early commercial Lugers, 1900 to 1908, may have "BUG" proofs, while later models will have the Crown/N proofs. See the "Technical Information" section of this forum and look under "Markings","Proof 1". Commercial Lugers exported to the United States and some other countries will also have a "GERMANY" stamp somewhere on the frame, usually under the serial number on the front of the frame, or on the side of the frame rails or receiver.
