What to look for...

I am planning tu buy a luger for shooting. Not for collecting. So the most important thing is that it has to be accurate and work well. What should I look for on the gun? Any weak points that I have to check? I have never bought a used gun before so a little help would be appreciated...

Rikard, decide what you want. There are many models to choose from, including brand new and fairly new made lugers. Orimar (sp) makes them presently, so you could ahve a brand new one, or you could buy a Mauser made during the 1970's, semi-collectable, strong and just like new.

Or you can buy a WW1, Weimar or WW2 era. As a rep piece, you might want to buy a "mismatch" from any era, and shoot the shirt out of it. There is a nickled piece for sale right now on the forum, have no idea if it is worth a darn, but check it out!

I can tell you right now what I want. An old luger, 1920-1941 or something like that. Blued. Nothing New, and nothing nickled or stainless. What I want to know is what to look for when I have the gun in my hand, before deciding if I want do buy it. (what are the weak points on the gun that can break and be expensive to repair?)

Parts do break, but if it is a shooter, then shoot it till it breaks? Then buy a new part. Lots of shooters for sale around, especially on gunbroker, just think of which round, 7.65 expensive, or 9mm. do searches on this forum, read around and decide what you'd like.

Once I have it I will shoot it until it breaks and then repair it. What I am interersted in is a few tips how do decide if the condition is good enough to buy and avoid paying far more than the gun is worth.

Gunbroker is an American site, right? That means it is a little difficult to buy there since I live in Sweden. So the easiest way is probably to buy from a local gundealer or at an gun auction. If I buy it at an auction I will not be able to shoot it first and that is the reason for my questions.

He should be able to advise you about a good Luger to purchase...

This is his website, but I can't read any of it since it is all in Swedish... It used to be also in English, but that has changed.
