Default 1917 DWM Navy marked

I was hoping that someone could shed a little light on this possible Navy marking on the back grip strap. Also is there anything to treat the rust or is it best to leave it.
Thanks in advance,
Jared

You can knock off any flakey surface rust with a 0000 steel wool, then just keep it oiled or spray some gun preservative like Ballistic or CLP on it. It doesn't look bad to me, but the photos are not very high resolution, either.

That's a very nice looking LP.08 and shoulder stock.
I didn't see this one on Norm's Navy List.

I'm pretty sure the N stands for Norden (North Sea) Fleet.

There is controversy about LP.08 models being assigned to the German Navy.

On page 195 of David Molchen's new (2023) Navy Lugers 1904-1940, he only lists one: (194n) 1917 dated LP.08 luger. However, on page 97-8 he lists about 28 different LP.08's.
