Lightbulb Help ID LP08 stock stamping "III.E.1."

I just acquired a wooden stock with presumably a unit stamping on the butt end of the stock. (Roman numeral)" III. E. 1." I don't see any other stampings on the wood. On the metal clasp is "1079" with "c" positioned below it.
I've done a brief search but can't find anything close. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I see that this thread is dated but my understanding is that the letter “E”, when not in combination with another letter, would allocate Eisenbahn Regiment (railway protection troops).

That is very helpful. Thank you very much. Do you have a reference source for that information?
