This little gun followed me home
A well used Ottoman era Colt 1849 Pocket copy, marketed by the company J. Nikitits Erben in Constantinople.
The caliber is 10mm, about .40. The cylinder is quite overdinensioned compared to the Colt original. The barrel model marking is funny, 'genuine Coll American Patent' (Vero Coll Americain Patent). J. NIKITITS was a Hungerian jewish trader who set up shop in Constantinople (Instanbul today). After his death his wife took over until the youngest son was old enough to take over. The company was mentioned in documents from 1942, so it seems to have had a long life. The company also acted as the importer for Mauser. |

If it could talk, it would probably ask for a lawyer.

Great acquisition. I like the arrow indicating where the bullet comes out.

Gerben, what regulations apply (or not) to a percussion/black powder pistol in your locale?

The original ones are free to own at 18+.
Later reproductions, like the Italian ones, can only be owned on a gun permit. Certain rimfires as well as pinfires are free as well. .22 caliber rimfires need a permit. |

A neighbor of mine showed me a small frame black power revolver chambered in .36 caliber. It had a machined step in the lower frame much like the step in an 1860 Colt revolver. There was a corresponding step in the cylinder as well. The frame of the revolver appeared to be small like a .31 caliber copy. There was almost no finish remaining on the revolver overall (maybe 10 to 15% I'd say). The wooden grips were all there but had several bumps and scratches. I couldn't see any name on the piece. Has anyone in the forum seen something like this before ?

Big open. This is what is called 'thread hijacking' and considered a bad practice. Either stay on topic or start your own thread.

Vlim --- Sorry about my post.. I thought I was only contributing to a posting. It appears to me I'm unable to post anything in the forum without breaking some kind of rule. I guess I'd better refrain from posting anything for awhile and let the smoke clear.
