Default First time Luger owner VERY happy

Hello all,

I just bought this P08 9mm Luger. I know its a Mauser, and from 1936.

Yes, I know the nickle plating and the grips are not original and that drastically decreases the value, but as far as I can see after I tore it down, all the numbers match and bore looks pretty darn nice. The magazine is also not original.

I have always wanted one and am fond of nickle plating so.... I pulled the trigger!

Can anyone help me fill in the blanks? I am sure the emblems on the grips are the National party symbol, added by someone later on. The proof marks? The Suffix?

How about ammo for it? Any suggestions? I also reload, and need thoughts on a good load.

I have attached some pictures so maybe people can chip in with any information about it!

Jeff

For the load that I use in my 9mm Lugers, check this thread: http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=40318

It functions my Lugers reliably.

The letter suffix on the gun looks like a "k". The magazine is from 1940.

Hi Jeff,
Welcome to the forum.
The full S# is 6334k.
The 2 drooped wing eagles/63 are acceptance stamps. The 3rd stamp to the right on the receiver a drooped winged eagle , also found on the barrel and breechblock are firing proofs.
Hope this helps.

You learn about Lugers through time, experience, and research.
For magazine identification there is a Forum pictorial that can help.
Look under the discussion "All P-08 Military Lugers" then go to the sticky, "Mauser Luger Magazine Suffix Pictorial".

Congrats on your first Luger. It is pretty "jazzy"!! If you are pleased with it, that is all that matters. Now, if it functions correctly, you have a fun range Luger to enjoy. Lugers like to be kept clean and well lubed. Let us know how it functions. Welcome to the forum.

I put 2 magazines of Remington UMC 124 Gr. through it last night. Functioned flawlessly. I was just plinking so cannot speak to its accuracy yet!
