Default How to post a link

Maybe it's just me and my circumstances but I get an awful lot of requests to go and look at something somewhere with convoluted directions or vague go to this dealer site and look under so & so. Most times I get, I am a computer newbie and don't know how to post a link. Here are directions a primate could understand..For those of you who say well, this is stupid, I have known how to do this for years..yes. This is not for you. BUT if you have any corrections, suggestions or ideas on how to convey this better PLEASE do so. It IS NEEDED by some.

Learning how to post a link is stupidly simple and a very valuable feature if you want to show someone something ANYWHERE on the World Wide Web.
If you ever learn anything about computers..let it be how to post a link. It takes you DIRECTLY to what you want someone to look at. 2-3 clicks and there it is.
You can Google it..HOW TO POST A LINK. There will be directions.
Here are mine.
Go to what/the page you want me to see. At the top of the page there is an address bar. WWW or HTTPS or wherever you are, in the case of Jan's forum it looks like this. https://luger.gunboards.com/forum.php
At the top of the page..put your cursor on this address bar and at the lower left of your keyboard there is a large key. CTL. Or the control key. At the top of the page take your mouse and starting at the right side of this address, push down on your mouse click and scroll through it to the left. It will turn blue. Once you see the address turn blue you must capture it. To capture it..press down on the CTL-control button to the lower left of your keyboard and while pressing down on the CTL-control button hit the letter C. Let go of them both. You have now captured the address bar and are able to move it to my email.
Go to email..or for that matter almost any message venue..private messaging on the Forums or whatever you want to show someone.
Start the message..say Jerry, here is the link you need. Now, hit CTL, Control button/key and while pressing it down hit the letter V. Same as you did with CTL C, Your captured address link will magically appear. If it appears black, simply hit your ENTER key and that will turn it blue and activate it. Now send your email or private message and the recipient will be able to receive it, click on it and it will take him to the same page you got it from and might be looking at still.
Try it, you will like it.

be advised that sometimes the main page is WHAT will be copied. So, you RIGHT click and choose new page (new browser etc) and then it takes you DIRECTLY to that page.

This simply depends on the page being visited (how they set it up), so just be aware of it.

I could not find an example but will check some more

-----------
and as an aside - if someone sends a link or posts a link that just goes to the main website, I simply ignore it - too much trouble for me - seriously, doing a search, wading through posts to find the one that you are interested in...

Thx Jerry.
Ed knows this stuff backwards and forwards, but casual (and elderly) users like you and I tend to not have a clue on some of the computer tricks available. I'll remember this one for a while, as it is very good info.

Lyn, Yes..practice makes perfect! Keep playing with it and burn it into your everyday practices/procedures.

It's also a handy word processing trick. Copy- paste. I didn't come naturally to computers but we have to learn some basics. This one is so handy to point out where to go look at something..
