Winter Storm 'Harper'...
...Is poised to hit North Mecklenburg NY at any moment, dumping 2 - 4+ feet of snow on this rural community. Barn owners are anxiously waiting to see how bad the resulting power outage and traffic ban will be...
I expect where I live will only get ~5 inches of light fluffy snow. It's 16ºF here right now, with 9º forecast overnight. I filled up my SUV tank, filled a 1 and 2 gal gas cans with gas for my snowblower, and charged up all my laptop batteries. I live on a state road and the NYS plows are going by every 30 or 40 minutes. Nothing really to plow yet, only 2 inches on my picnic table, but at least somebody is thinking ahead. Speaking of talking heads, NYS governor Cuomo was on TV banning all buses and trucks from state roads. We may never hear from Central New York ever again... Archaeologists hundreds of years from now will be digging up Lugers from the frozen tundra...And one Whitney Wolverine...

If that is the name of the storm, here in NW Ohio it has dropped about 8 inches of snow. But it is a very light snow and the drifts are huge. Only an hour and a half south of me my parents got ice instead of the snow. I haven’t left my place all day and have no intention to do so. Might not do it even tomorrow since winds are projected to be over 20 mph and temperatures at zero or below. Technically this has been classified as a “blizzard” due to the winds. Not that I agree with it, but stay safe all those in the path of this storm.

The radar pictures show it driving across Ohio into NY state and then toward Boston. Followed by an Arctic blast of single-digit temps. On a long holiday weekend. I have my furnace power line fitted with a cut-out so I can hook it directly to my gas generator (entirely separate from the main power line from the street). And I can hook up my laptop to my Galaxy S7 and Tether it like it was a wireless modem. So I can keep track of all the priceless threads here on LugerForum, like the C96 with the revolver grip... Zorba was right the first time...It's an abomination...

"The sky is falling! The sky is falling! The sky is falling!"
Oh, the sky really is falling... Momma said that there would be days like this. I can't be too smug. We do get these storms here in the South, but I sold my snow blower when I moved here from New York 25 years ago. I do like the image of a politically correct archaeologist breaking through the ice, tundra and substrata to find an ancient safe full of Lugers and an Wolverine... The legacy newscasts sound like they are getting people worked up. https://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/...1888/99128974/ Yeah... history keeps repeating itself.

... ...The people on the Weather Channel are running around in circles...
My neighborhood got maybe 8 inches of light fluffy snow, and 9ºF when I got up this morning. Forecast is a minus 3ºF tonight. I snow-blowered my driveway in case I had to go somewhere but everything [social] is cancelled. I haven't seen any snow plows [NYS] this morning. Street out front is snow covered; I suppose the plow crews are on break. Edit: A plow just went by. Breaks over!

Weather Channel reports five deaths attributable to the storm; they didn't say if it was the entire storm or just one state. Time lapse radar showed the storm traveling from Louisiana NorthEastward to the Boston area; sort of a 45º path. NYS still has bans on buses and tractor-trailers. Cold is moving in now.
Tornado damage along the route of the storm. 130mph winds. Roofs ripped off, trees uprooted. Scary stuff. Oddly, the Weather Channel was off the air here from last night some time until the middle of this morning. "Channel Unavailable" was the message. Local problem I suppose. Edit: Plows are still out.

6:00pm - The Weather Channel just had a 'breaking news' flash - Winter storm 'Indra' has been named and is progressing Eastward across the NorthWest US. More snow and freezing temps expected.
Welcome to 2019.

My yearly temp pic. It actually got colder, to -2ºF later in the early am, but I was in my skivvies and didn't want to turn on the lights...
...Although that may have been paranoia, as no cars went by in the short time I looked at the thermometer... It's 12:30pm now and 9ºF. Sunny outside, no snow flurries, although we got 3" overnight. 'Harper' is gone, just the aftermath now. When I snow-blowed yesterday, my hands got numb. When I came in and got warmed up my joints hurt. They still hurt today, and they crack when I flex my hand.

Aha but here in Bowling Green it is a balmy 7 degrees with bright sunshine! Although that will quickly change in the next few hours.

In was EIGHT degrees this morning when I took my dogs outside at 5:00AM... No snow here. Now it is supposed to be in the low 50's tomorrow! Strange "climate change" for sure. The newly minted liberal socialist congressperson from NY claims that the world will end in about 12 years due to climate change... I intend to outlive that completely baseless prediction...
