Default Looking for Info on a friends Luger

Hello luger fans! I have a widowed family friend in need of money who is selling her late husband's old luger. Can the experts here provide me with any basic information and an approximate value? Also what would be a reasonable asking price if we want this to sell fairly quickly but not get ripped off? Is the classified section here a good place to start? I'm also familiar with gunbroker and armslist as a buyer, but I'm not sure if those are the best places for something like this.

I believe it has one magazine and no accessories.
Let me know if any more pictures or specific details are needed.

Thanks!

Looks to me like a very nice 100 year old German military Luger, 9mm. Finish looks original, but lots of numbers are not shown so we can't say for sure that it is all matching.
Here are some WAGs:
Some parts do not match, $800 or $900,
All parts match except the magazine: $1250
Everything matches, including the magazine, $1400-$1600.
This is a very good place to start. Honest, non-flakey buyers, but only paying collector-to-collector prices, so maybe deduct 10%.
You can ask more on GB.com, but that brings in the flakes, tire-kickers, and non-paying bidders.
That's my $.02 worth, let's see what the others say.

A picture of the bottom of the barrel (where there should be numbers) would help.

Here's a useful video on how to check if the parts match on a military Luger.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=fDTQ327u5gA

Another option for selling your Luger is to consign with a dealer like Simpson. Dealers in general will try to talk you down a bit on price, and take 25% commission, however they can sell it for a dealer price so you get a little of the 25% fee back. In my opinion dealers are a viable option for someone who is selling just one item.

Thanks for the replies so far! I will find out if all the numbers match and get a picture of under the barrel and the magazine. In the meantime, any other estimates or info is appreciated!

Also if you sell it out of State you will need to ship it from a FFL01 or FFl03 holder. That is unless you are. The cost of this varies from $50 to 100. If you use a FFl03 license holder shipping costs will be over $100. Only legal way for an 03 holder to ship is overnight mail. Once you decide on a price you might try advertising locally or at least within State. If from California all bets are off. Good luck Bill

It's really difficult to give value estimates on a Luger with incomplete information. Those that are as close to factory condition as possible are the most valuable. Matching. Original finish.

Once your reach 80% finish or so, it's not really collectible.

Rarity of a variation also affects price. This one (1916 DWM Military) is not particularly rare.

If it's all matching and in original finish, it will be worth more than $1200 and probably less than $1750. Your's probably is in the middle, a bit less with the grip panel damage. That would be for an all matching gun. Jay's estimates are reasonable (above). Anything you see advertised by a dealer online will be about 30% above what a collector would pay for a direct purchase.

Use extreme care if you decide to remove the grips to check if they are numbered to the gun. Lift the left one only slightly before sliding it down off the frame. Some numbered parts are not externally visible.

Our FAQ (follow the link at the top ot the forum page) has quite a bit of detailed information that may be helpful.

You can always go to Simpson, Ltd. website and do some comparison shopping.
