New to forum

Hello. I picked up a 1918 Erfurt today (been in gun jail here in CA for 10 days). I know nothing about lugers, but wanted it for a conversation piece to go with the three books of 1941 german branded luger ammo I have. I realize Mauser made the "war era" Lugers, but who really knows. Plus, I love the fact this thing is 100 years old. It's an amazing piece...to me.

Anyway, on to my question. The magazine is not matching the Serial number (1519) so I was hoping I might be pointed to some resource that might have magazines for sale, in the off chance I can actually find the numbered magazine for this gun. Any chance someone can point me toward such a resource?

We have a lot of good and knowledgeable people on this forum.

I don't claim to be an expert, but I'm not new to this hobby by any means.
They say the devil is in the little details, that's why some close up pictures taken in the shade without flash would probably help, discussions and evaluations should start with close and clear photos and a serial number.

The unmatching mag is fairly common, finding a "correct" one shouldn't be too difficult, I would advise you to start asking here on this forum.

Welcome to the forum. I can strongly recommend using the FAQ sections on this forum, as there is a treasure trove of correct information to be had there. It will answer a lot of your questions, plus educate you on your new Luger.

As mentioned above, good photos are virtually a must for the many experts in this forum to make reliable evalutations of a particular gun. Outside on an overcast day, no shadows, no flash, as close as possible, sharp focus, wide depth of field (small lens opening- ideal for most lenses is f/8)

I think there is a listing of mags with their numbers on this forum? especially for the purpose of matching mags to guns which have been separated years ago? Or you can use your signature to indicate the number of the mag you need... No 1519.

I'm doing the same, as you can see from my sig. It's a long shot, but a significant boost to the value of your gun if you find that matching mag

Welcome.

Looking for the correct magazine is kind of like expecting to win the lottery.
Not only do you need the correct number, but also correct type/style magazine with correct acceptance markings. Then add trying to match the condition and it is nearly impossible.

It has been done, but only by pure luck and lots of it. JMHO.

The German army used lugers from all years in the second world war, your 1918 is as likely to be a bring back from the the second war as the first, again JMHO.
