Luger problems ?
The problem mostly occurs on the last round. The empty flips 180* and gets stuck between the toggle and barrel,it often fails to hold open on the last round.
I think I have changed every spring in it, I use a metgar mag and WWB 115gr. It's like it needs ammo that is a tad hotter? Any opinions? |

That could be tough to figure out.
I would first replace the extractor spring. May be know your name(first) and location?

I would suspect magazine first. And, possibly the mainspring is a bit too strong.
A few questions to help diagnose: 1. What magazine are you using, original or aftermarket? 2. Does it always fail to hold-open on last round? 3. You mention the problem occurs mostly on last round, suggesting intermittent malfunctions before last round. Can you describe those other malfunctions and their frequency? 4. Did you replace the mainspring or magazine spring? Just asking; too soon to know if replacement is necessary. Sorry for so many questions - but in my experience the details matter to determining cause/correction. Last edited by 4 Scale; 04-03-2016 at 08:37 PM. |

You can certainly try other ammo i.e. PMC 115-124gr FMJ, S&B 115-124gr FMJ, and others. I would avoid the NATO and +P +P+ ammo. I own one Luger that will do that very thing of ejection on the last round.... but not the failure to lock back phenomen. It doesn't do it every time, but on occasion. I still don't know exactly why it does it......maybe just to irritate me!!
On firing the last round in the mag, there are no more cartridges that are aiding in the ejection process of the spent round. The follower alone is not as effective as a loaded cartridge under the stiff mag spring pressure pushing upward. |

Does it hold open reliably on an empty magazine when retracted by hand?
I have found some of the newer Mecgar mags do not raise the hold open reliably. By all means, beg-borrow-or buy another mag to try/use.

Also, look at your magazine release. a worn release will make the magazine sit lower, leading to these kind of problems. Remove the release and make sure that the ledge that supports the magazine opening are crisp and even.

The mag doses sit a little low, I'm starting to suspect the mag release also. I can see some wear signs on it.

Take your gun to the range and fire it while placing upward pressure on the magazine base. If this tends to alleviate the problem, the release may be the culprit.
