Post US Test Eagle # 6881 At Butterfield's Auction...

This US Test Eagle is up on auction on 6-30-03 at Butterfield's in SF, CA...

http://www.butterfields.com/areas/ar...7436a-2270.htm

It does have one of those "marble bead' front sights, but otherwise looked very nice. Straw on the thumb safety lever is a bit brighter that the rest of the straw; might be a restraw on this part. Only the left side of the pistol was visible during the preview display...

I went to the preview day, today..

The only other luger is a fair reblued and rebarrelled 1914 DWM that will open at $ 300.00...for those chasing a cheap shooter...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Thanks Pete. Didn't have 6881 on my list, so now the number of known surviving "in range" Test Eagles stands at 237, with an additional 5 "below range" and 31 "above range". I agree, the straw looks a bit "enhanced" but otherwise a nice looking gun.

The 1914 doesn't have a stock lug, but can't really tell from the photo whether it is a 1914 that has been ground or a 1908 pattern that has been misidentified as a 1914. Did you see a chamber date?

Hello Ron,

Sorry, I did not catch a chamber date for the 1914...

I was too busy admiring the US Test Eagle...Glad I found one that is "new" for your database...

Our mutual acquaintice, Ed B. of Walnut Creek, thought the same thing about the straw on the thumb safety...

Do you think the revised front sight hurts this US Test luger's value...?

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Not a lot. Folks tend to forget that people once actually shot these things! Sure, it is nice to have everything original, but this is a valid period replacement to enhance accuracy and is part of its history. I wouldn't replace it and I wouldn't deduct much from the value. If it really bothered someone, a "correct" sight is an easy replacement. Some would consider replacement "boosting"...I consider it "repair". Boy, am I going to be roasted for that comment.
