Police markings: Schutzpolizei Kassel, I. Centurian. That which is crossed out is simply the earlier designation of Kassel using a "C" rather than a "Ka".

George is spot on about these markings being from the Schupo of the district of Cassel/Kassel. The first marking is consistent with instructions issued in 1922 when Kassel was spelled with a "C." The second marking is in accordance with instructions issued in 1932. The spelling was changed in 1926 (HWIS, p. 60).

The I. in both markings indicates this pistol belonged to the Schupo command stationed in the city of Kassel (HWIS, p.132). The earlier marking contains a 3. indicating it belonged to the 3. Hundertschaft (company or centuria), a barracked Schupo unit. I can't make out the inventory number.

May I know the serial number and suffix of this pistol for my database? Since it was issued to a barracked unit, I doubt that it has or had a sear or mag safety. Correct?

Hi George & Don,
Thank you for that fantastic info, I 've been wondering for 20+ yrs what they stood for.
Don, I don't know where to look to tell if it has either safety and yes you can have the serial #.
I have pictures of it in my albums section. If there's anything else you can tell me about it, I would be most grateful. Sean

P.S.
I took a closer look with a magnifying glass.
The X out markings are S.C.I. 3.38 followed by the new markings S.Ka.I.224
P.P.S.
What type mag(s) should my DWM have?
Nickel or Blue?
Wood or Aluminum?
Serial # or none ?
Any other markings?

The photos answer my questions. It does not and should not have a sear or mag safety.

I'm no expert on mags but this one certainly had several different over its lifetime. Since it was issued to barracked Schupo who were taken into the military in 1934-35, the mags you have are probably as close as you can get. I'm puzzled by the suffix on one of them since the gun has no sufffix. The 3 on the other strongly suggests a police mag. But the serial numbers match. I don't really know what to say.
