Nice looking gun and holster!
Two matching clips is a big deal.

The gun seems to have very little wear from the holster storage (all the parts that would rub).
All the serial numbers are readable, but the proofs are harder to read (close up needed on the right side).

Then get a close-up of the top of the barrel where there should be a date code.

Also, could you get a close up of the front frame and barrel, which should show the full serial number on both and a suffix.

I've never seen a holster looks so new and perfect. Looks brand new - no wear at all !? Is the holster marked at all or is it a new one? It's hard to believe it would look so new after 60 years !!!

Please do tell us the story !

(disclaimer - I'm not any kind of expert, just a new collector)

I've never seen such heavy duty leather used on the belt loop straps. Hopefully our leather guru will weigh in soon.

Due to leather shortage they used strips of licorice.

Super nice Mauser in this shape is hard to come. Not because they don't exist, usually because this is people's keeper.

Ty,

They are Haenel magazines, whose code was 122 in 1940. Haenel's code became fxo in 1941. This was stamped on the body. The magazines also had a ziz zag spring.

When Mauser switched from their own magazines to Haenel's in 1940, the magazines displayed Haenel's inspector on the body. Early Haenel code 122 Eagle37 magazines sometimes had Eagle 37 on the base but this was sporadic and ended early in 1940.

What a beautiful code 42, 1940 Luger.

I too wanted a 1940 manufacture, which is the year of my birth, and recently acquired one from "c" block. It's condition is excellent but pales in comparsion to your beauty. It also lacks a matching magazine so your matched pair of originals makes me green with envy.

Congratulations on your superb Luger and rig and thanks for sharing the photos.

Don't know other people. Here is my feeling. If I buy a pistol for a few thousand dollars, the feeling is this "it's so expensive". If I sell a pistol for a few thousand dollars, the feeling is usually different "it's so cheap" -- even on some pieces come relatively low. Back a few months ago, I acquired a Mauser for $3k, told my spouse "Spent another three grands. But this one probably could sell 5 to 10 times of this price if I send it to an auction house". She has no interest in any firearms, not even a single cent of interest. But even she said, "if it's so hard to come as you said, you don't want to sell it".
