I'm thinking Chinese. (Who else?)

Anyway, it's on its way back whence it came. Good on Numrich that they provide return shipping via USPS and one can even print out a mailing label from their website.

If they are made in China, there should be a way to find out who is making them there and explain the problems to them. Then again, we could cut out the middleman as well!
