Default markings

Gentlemen

I recently purchased a Luger, a 1937 S/42 with what appears to be all matching serial numbers. However being very much of a neophte with these guns I have a quetion for anyone out there that has a free moment. On the bottom of the barrel under the serial number 2077 is a set of very small numbers

8,82.Is this an import date or something else?

Ray,

It is a barrel gauge; these were on Mauser manufactured pistols up to 1942. They can be found from 8.81 to 8.85.

Hope this helps.

It's the diameter of the barrel in millimeters measured from the lands in the rifling.
