Hello Tom, and welcome to the forum.

A member here, Jerry Burney, is an expert on the preservation and repair of holsters.

He'll probably be in touch soon after reading this.

If it needs a repair, I can think of nobody else in the world that could do it better.

Marc

If what I think is the problem..you have broken stitching along the top of the left side seam. The stitching on these WW1 German holsters was linen thread..made of a plant fiber. Due to many environmental conditions plus age this thread may become weak and break at this seam where some pressure is seen from the pistol being inserted.
Breakage of any thread in a holster such as this can be indicative of weak thread throughout the holster..be careful handeling it.
If I were wanting to restore this fine holster I would gently remove all the broken thread and hand stitch it with the proper color and size linen thread.
I used to recommend a German repair shop but have heard some unfavorable comments from my European clients concerning their work so I will no longer do so. BUT.. I would guess this simple repair is something that would certainly be within their grasp. I do not encourage repair work from Europe or any foreign country..customs can be a bitch and shipping rates are horrible.
