New to Forum, Inherited a Luger
Good evening, gentlemen. New to your forum. Just picked up a Luger, was in a box with some other handguns that came from a deceased in-law. I'm trying to learn more about this piece, as it may be sold at auction. I have no idea what forum I should be on. There is a stamping, "Germany", in English, not German. Has the DWM logo on the top of the slide. There are no military markings that I can find. There are two of these marks: a letter "N" with a little crown on it. One of them is on the left side of the receiver, just behind where the barrel attaches to the receiver. A second such mark is on the side of the slide. The serial on the barrel does NOT match the serial on the frame. Other than the DWM logo, the serial numbers, and the N's with the crown over them, there are no other markings. If anyone can give me a rough idea of what forum I should be starting on to try and find out more about this piece, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi , welcome to the forum!
I think your in the right place especially for the luger. If you could , some detailed pictures of both sides , top and serials on frame and barrel would go along way in identifying and putting a value on your pistol. |

John..The serial on the barrel does NOT match the serial on the frame. Price wise this is a kick in the head. The other is that it's a commercial. Given what you have so far I estimate $450-500. Pictures would help. Caliber too.

Jerry - Don't know how to tell what caliber it is. Is there something else besides 9 mm?

There is also .30 cal. Luger, very common on the commercial models. See if a #2 pencil eraser fits into the bore. Sort of a go, no-go gauge.
Also there are other numbers on the barrel sometimes that we could be confusing. Photos possible? dju |

Yes, a pencil fits into the bore. Not squeezed against the sides, but it is a snug fit.

See if a #2 pencil eraser fits into the bore..metal and all. If it's too snug and you have to cram it in it's .30 Luger. If it's a 9MM it will not be snug and it will just fall in and out.

Pencil In The Bore
Stuck it in, eraser first. Then the metal. It all went in easily and fell out when I turned her upside down. I just remembered I have a micrometer for measuring the inside of cartridge cases, this would work fine to check the bore size. Thanks[/B]
