What caliber is that cartridge case for? Does it have any markings? I have one at home and I remember it being much smaller.
I'll post some pictures this evening.

I don't remember from an earlier post. I dont have a ruler though I believe its 3' by 6'. Here it open! Both were made in the Rock Island Arsenal around the same time! I beleive it was 50 krag? It does have the original owners initial on it face. 'J.M.D.' I wonder if it could be traced?

Pretty nice for over a hundred years old! Not many 1900 US test luger holsters survived.

I honestly don't know. Do you think the #38 on the bottom indicates 38 cal?

38 revolver ammo looks good to fit. Hard to tell the size of your case by just pics.

The number and arrangement of the holes seems to make sense to reload a revolver. 2 rows of six shots.

I love seeing the bold 'US' and date!! I assume the initals were the inspector.

Yes, individuals were not authorized to stamp their own initials into their gear!!

(although in a war zone, nobody bothered anybody who individualized their gear).

Tks They bring a human quality to the piece. Could the be inspectors initials like the "E.H.S" on the test piece! Do we know whose initials these were?

I'm aware of 3 inspector initials G.N.S., E.H.S. and "H. C. One was E. S. Smitten!
