Default My 1911 goes to the gunsmith.

So its been a few weeks since getting my RIA 1911A1 .45 and while its not a bad gun at all I figured it could use a little professional tuning. So its getting a trigger job with new main spring (3 pound rather then the factory 7) new trigger, new Cocobolo grips, and a green fiber optic front sight, new front bushing, hand fit the slide to the frame, polishing all of the internals and the gunsmith will sight it in for 25feet. Total cost $370.00, not too hateful IMHO especially seeing the only thing left to do to it would be to install a match grade barrel. I want to see how she does once all the other upgrades are done before I get a new barrel, I figure I'll never be in any real competition I just want it to shoot a little better is all.

On a side note I had him look at my Luger and he said I did a pretty good job for my first try at gunsmithing and gave me a few pointers for getting the finish a little better then it currently is, so once I get my 1911 back it'll be the Lugers turn for a little work.

Ummmmmm........... yeah so I don't know about this anymore. The gunsmith calls me tonight to tell me that my .45 isn't ejecting the spent shells properly and horror of horrors it shoots 3/16 of an inch low at 7 yards and an 8th of an inch to the left. So now it's gonna be an additional $40 for a new front sight and he may need to replace the rear sight as well but he won't know that till he swaps out the front one. As for the shell ejecting issue I never had a problem with the 350 rounds I put thru it so he says he'll take a look at the ejector and see whats wrong at no additional charge.

So what started out as a $250 to $300 tune up to make a nice gun a little better is up to $370 and climbing. I'm not so sure about having a gun tuned up anymore as it seems to create more problems then it solves. I told him I can't go over $400 period no if, and, buts or whats but I'm afraid he's gonna find something that'll make it to that $400 mark.

That probably would be the tax.

Sounds like the tuning may have caused other problems.
