Norwegian Rework Luger
I have a vague recollection of reading decades ago that after WW2 Norway reworked German Lugers by replaciong the barrels. Does anyone know anything more about this, like what other modifications were made to these pistols.

Hi, I think you are mistaking Norway for Finland. Finland did replace their .30 luger barrels with 9mm Tikka made barrels.
Norway kept the P08 (which they cleverly wrangled out of the hands of the retreating Germans) in service 'as is', replacing parts that needed replacing with similar parts. These were both cannibalized parts from other guns, as well as newly made small parts made by the Kongsberg Arsenal. |

Thank you, Vlim. I never knew Finland used a Luger. Their own Lahti pistol looks similar to the Luger. I fine it interesting that at some point the German forces occupying Norway acquired Norwegian m/14 pistols with German markings, and then Norway acquired P08 pistols from the Germans.

In the mid 1980's Norway released their "capture" Lugers for sale to the surplus market. I have a BYF 41, in mint condition, that was sold to me for around $385.00 around 1985. I was told by the dealer, then, that when the German Army left Norway, they surrendered their weapons on the way out of the country. This seems logical, as the Western Armies never invaded Norway to fight the Germans there. Sieger |
