What's the chance of this?

I won an auction on Ebay of Ed Tinkers for a mag for my 1939/42 luger. while it wasn't a match, but was within 4000 of my sn. Would you believe that less than 10 hrs later, I found and bought its mate on Gunbroker. Both were identical in number font, proof mark and letter. The one on Gunbroker had the plus symbol to indicate the spare mag. What is the chance of finding matching mags on two seperate internet auction sites the same day. While not as good as finding a matching mag to your luger, it's still must be astronomical odds to accomplish this. I think I'll buy a lottery ticket.

Now you just need to find the Luger that matches the mags!

yea, While looking for mags for my lugers, I think it would be easier to look for the luger to match my mags.

yes. I won his auction plus the auction on Gunbroker from a different seller the same day for the matching mag.

Finding two matching magazines from different sources is incredibly lucky. I know it happened to me. I bought a "v" suffix commercial luger mag from a gun show a while back and last year I found it's match at a gunshop. Quite amazing!

Now that is interesting...We know that there can be a number of Lugers with the same number but different letters [under the number], but did the magazines necessarily have the letter stamped as well as the number???

And what about the first 9,999 (without letters)??? You could match one of those up with a later 'lettered' Luger...

I must think on this a while...

Only very early wood bottom mags with the numbers stamped from front to back, didn't have the suffix added. The added suffix started with 'e' in 1911.
