numbers matching?

We're suppose to go look at a luger thats numbers matching except the magazine.
As a newbie to the luger world, what parts are numbered on a 1917 erfurt luger? Everything visible is matching but I wanted to know what internal parts would I look for to know Im getting a matching pistol. Is there a diagram somewhere I can look at? thanks. jim

With an Erfurt, it's not just matching numbers, but also most of the parts (including the grip screws) are marked with acceptance marks.

Also, to be collectable, it should have 80% or better original rust blued finish and strawing. 80% is usually considered the minimum.

Hi Jim, Trigger, breechblock, firing pin, hold-open and grips, have numbers that are not externally visible. In addition, all parts with the exception of the grip screws and springs should have inspection marks. Regards, Norm

This got me to looking at my first luger I bought this summer. Its a 1918 DWM 9mm. I knew the side plate and take down lever is off by 1 number. Everything else is stamped 65 but those two parts, which is stamped 66. Since the guns been reblued at some point, is it worth trying to find the parts with the 65 stamped on it? Im usually not a number type person, but to think just replacing those two parts will get the numbers back to the same, but not original. Thanks. jim

Hi Marc, A small point. Erfurt stopped inspection marking grip screws in 1916. A 1917 Erfurt, like Jim is considering, would have unmarked screws. Regards, Norm
