This photo was taken on Sigmund Loewe's estate. Sigmund Loewe was a manager for Vickers, Sons & Maxim and was a brother of Ludwig and Isidor Loewe, founders of the Ludw. Loewe & Cie., owners of DWM, FN and Mauser.

And that is Mr. Hiram Maxim on the right.

"Back in the middle or late "60's" I remember a recurring add that appeared on the back page of one of the gun magazines for German Luger's and C96 Broomhandles, the prices listed were, I believe, $25.00, $29.00 and $35.00."
That ad was probably a "Hunter's Lodge" ad... they used to appear in LOTS of gun magazines including the American Rifleman... I remember dreaming back them, 'If ONLY I could by a thousand dollars worth of those Lugers and P.38's...' ...of course our late friend Ralph Shattuck... took my idea and ran with it!

The gentlemen on the left are Albert Vickers and Sigmund Loewe, whose other claim to fame was to be one of the first to get themselves killed in a car crash.

I think you hit the nail on the head John, I joined the NRA and received the American Rifleman around that time (still belong) and I bet that's where I used to see the ad, thanks.

Joe, I did multiply the price of the Luger, $25.00 by the rate of inflation which I believe was 598.4% and that is how I arrived at a price of $149.60 as of last Nov. As far as taking the time to calculate the compound effect of inflation over a period of nearly 42 years it just wasn't worth the effort I was just looking for a ball park figure but thank you for your input. If you would like to do that I would appreciate your effort, I think it would be interesting to see the final figure. Thanks, Lon

Using simple compound formula for 42 years and your numbers we arrive at:

$6065.66
