Default Type of paint for gesichert???

Hi Guys,
What is the correct type of paint would you use for the safety word Gesichert on a Luger? That cleaning oils will not remove?
Regards
Bob

Bob, I bought some from a hobby shop several years ago, enamel. It was like some kind of off-white, I think they called it antique yellow or antique white, I asked on the forum and someone told me.

I can do a search and see?

Thank you for your help. I read all the other ones. I used enamel white. and a week later I put grease on it to age it. It aged me!! took all the white off!!!
So now I will do it right thanks to you.

I have a 1941 S/42 that is practically new, I think, it has the "gesichert" still looking like new. It is a cross between gold and yellow. Of course I can't account for the aging of the 70 years. The letters are "just almost filled in" with the paint. Most of the ones I've seen are what I would call "over filled" with the paint. Once you've seen the factory way its easy to know the difference. The care of doing it with a "less is better' attitude probably does wonders for having it just right. I can't tell anyone how to do it and how to develop the skill and the patience but I can imagine that's the difference.

I don't know what color it's supposed to be for this particular application, but I usually use Testors 2709 Light Ivory enamel when touching up off-white text. It has a nice yellow/brown tint that makes it look like white paint with some age to it.

As far as I recall, the markings were originally filled in with a white lead product, rather than painted. Most often, this is restored using a laquer stick, which is removable with solvent, but adheres better than paint. TH

Default Correct type of paint for gesichert??

Hello Guys
Thanks to one and all. I used the Testers 2709 light ivory enamel paint. And it looks very close to the original.
Best regards
Bob
