byf 42 opinions
Hello all. What do you all think of this byf 42?
It is all matching numbers, with mismatched mag. Sn.4796 c. Side plate stamped 48 on the inside. I did the hot pin test on the grips, and no smoke or mark left. The holes are threaded. So I think they are real bakelite. Still some paint left in the “GESICHERT.” Bore is bright with no pitting. 8.82 gage stamped. Wear on high spots and front and back grip straps. I have no clue as to how the percentage of bluing left is estimated, and my photos make it look worse than it is. Any guess? E 135 doubled stamped with all correct proofs. Getting my info from my Mauser Parabellum1930-1946 Don &Joop book. Good condition over all. There is a WR scratched on the frame behind the side plate. Not into the metal just scratched the bluing. I think you can see it in the pics. This is an internet auction Luger for $1325.00 I’ve looked at all the sites mentioned in posts in this forum, and have seen most all prices $1900.00 and up. I know that they are retail prices but I’ve seen some pretty beat up 42s going for over $1900. So; Decent price? What about the WR scratched on the frame? I know most opinions are leave the character marks alone. But would it be a deal breaker? What tool would be correct? A 655 or 135? Or only a 135? I have an eqr 42 marked holster in very good condition that I’ll post in the holster forum for review. I will also want to get correct mags for it. Bakelite’s I’d assume. Thanks for any input. The 'WR' is in a good place
I think the price is not bad, but some folks will not like the scratching initials. Ed

Me thinks that the WR is almost a non-issue. A very nice gun at a very nice price. I'd prefer that no ititials were there, but it's not a deal breaker except for the really high end stuff. Congat's.
